They further alleged that other criminal activities such as robbery and theft, as well as rape, are dominant at the market, especially, late in the evenings, since the lighting system there is poor.

On the poor lighting situation, the PRO admitted that upon the advice of the Ghana National Fire Service, the Assembly aborted its quest to extend electricity to the market, because, per the advice, activities there could create fire outbreaks, so it would be prudent to evacuate the squatters and the people who have been cooking at the market first. The GNFS warned the Assembly against the possibility of the squatters engaging in illegal connections, which could create fire outbreaks.
